Welcome! I support queer & trans folks and parents. In particular, I support queer and trans folks (16+) to explore their identity, build their internal resources, and improve their mental health. This might include finding your footing in relationships, building self confidence, or exploring how past experiences have shaped the way you engage with your life and looking at changing patterns that no longer align with the person you are becoming. Maybe you’re feeling pressure from your parents, friends, or yourself to think, behave, or change in ways that you feel uncertain about. I provide a space that will meet you where you’re at, and support you in finding the directions you want to go. As a queer and trans person, I have deep knowledge of the process of exploring gender and sexuality, and how these identities can intersect with other aspects of life, even when they aren’t the main focus. If you are looking for a counsellor who understands these nuances of your experience, you’re in the right place.
I work with parents who are struggling to understand or connect with their teen, or who are finding themselves reacting to their child in ways that leave them feeling guilty, unbalanced, or disconnected. Parenting is a challenging process, one that can put a spotlight on your own triggers and patterns, which can make it hard to respond to your child or teen in the ways you would like to. Maybe you’re finding yourself being more reactive to your child than you’d like to be, maybe it’s feeling more difficult to connect with them, or perhaps your family is going through a change or challenge and you find yourself needing extra support. I offer a warm and non-judgemental space where we can build compassion for yourself and your child, explore the relational patterns that are currently challenging for you, and support you in shifting those patterns to support connected parenting in alignment with your values. I have 9 years of experience working with children, youth, and families in a variety of support roles, including facilitating parenting groups, providing 1:1 parenting support, and individual counselling for children and youth.
My counselling approach is grounded in relationality, which means that the therapeutic relationship we build creates the container for our work together, and that my attunement to you during sessions creates opportunities for us to notice and care for your experiences and create new ways of relating to yourself and others. I draw upon Attachment Theory, Trauma Informed and Response Based Practice, Narrative Therapy, Emotion Focused Family Therapy, and Interpersonal Process Therapy in our work together.
